"service" indicator?

So I followed the instructions in the manual - holding the trip 
reset counter, turning the ignition on, and then pressing the 
clock button. All in order to reset the "service" indicator on my 
2000 A6. This action and several combinations still results in 
"service" being displayed whenever the ignition is turned on. The 
dealer forgot...or maybe they dont know either!

Any ideas?
