Only the 87.5GT Coupe went to the 2.3l 10-1 with CIS-EIII(Knock Sensor). I
think some of the 87 4KQs got the 2.3 too - rare.
The switchover followed into the 80, 90 series, 100's and late(88 on
5000's).

Yes, the 100 lights don't look as nice, but there is truly no
comparison.
The European lights are far, far better. Relaying them and installing
driving lights still does not compare to the amazing light output of the
eurolights.
I've seen driving lights installed and they just don't come close.
I don't understand your cam comment- if you already have a radical cam,
why would you get another one for the same car? Especially if the car
is sidelined and you don't need it right away? <-cause I'm impatient, a
little crazy sometimes, and don't know when I'll actually get around to
installing the motor. A cam swap takes about an hour, two if you are
meticulous like myself and do the lifters and springs too. I may just like
the power good enough to hold off for quite sometime with the swap. Ben
That's right- I forgot that you were going to install a completely
different engine in your car. Coupe GT motor, right? I thought that all
of the 4kqs had the high compression engine. Was it only the '87 4kq and
the Coupe GT that got the high compression?
