If you consider the size of the A2 and what Audi is trying to achieve
(in terms of usable interior space, aerodynamics, structural rigidity,
safety, and other factors) you'll find that in this case they are working
against a number of conflicting requirements and styling would have
to be compromised. It's difficult to design a sleek looking car under
those extremely compact dimensions, and although I wouldn't call the A2
pretty, I do think it's one of the more successful microcar designs compared
to others in its class. It manages to exude a distinctive character that
is all Audi (when most others in its class are mostly generic and bland...),
while more importantly it incorporates some advanced technologies such as
the aluminum Audi Space Frame.
