These stand a reasonable chance of being repairable as long as the tubes
themselves are not cracked. Vacuum fluorescent displays are used extensively
in pinball and slot machines and I have repaired many in my time.
The main offenders are both power related (surprise surprise). The AC low
voltage for the heating wires could be missing or the negative high voltage
missing. If anyone had a display fail on them did it happen suddenly or fade
over a period of time ?
If anyone has a defective one that I can look at we could determine how
these things fail and if a repair is feasible.
BTW a car is a poor working environment for such displays.
