On my departed 96 A4 2.8q I averaged about 23mpg, with a best of 26mpg
(mostly freeway) and worse of about 20mpg (mostly city). The 15.8
gallon tankful usually goes about 320 miles before the low fuel warning
comes on, at which point there is still a couple of gallons left.
I did not notice any appreciable difference in mileage between the
summer months and the winter months where fuel is oxygenated.
On my new S4 biturbo I have not made a hand-computed MPG number yet,
but on my trip to Sacramento this past weekend I was getting as high
as 27 average mpg on the trip computer, and that's with a bunch of
stop-go traffic mixed with open highway driving. If the trip computer
is to be believed, it's pretty good!
