In the old days with my type 43 83 5kt I used to watcht he oil temp
gauge.  about 100 C is "normal", ie everything has settled down.  A
little "spirited" run would quickly raise the oil to 130-150 C.  

So when I pulled in before shutting down I would make sure the oil temp
was stabilised.  That would take 30 sec to 2 minutes at most.
