Curb weight for the A6 2.7T is 3759 lbs for the 6-sp manual and 3836 lbs
for the Tiptronic. The S4 6-sp manual is 3593 lbs. These are all 2001
US model year specs.

The auto trans and the heavier A6 body are both factors, no doubt. Audi
specs says that A6 2.7T 0-60mph on the 6-sp manual is 6.0 secs whereas
on the Tiptronic is 6.6 secs. 0.6 secs *is* a significant difference,
despite what it seems. That said, either number is not bad for a largish
sedan. It is definitely deceiving how quick the car is going since it's
so smooth and quiet, much of the sensation of speed is muted. The
vaunted 91 200q 20V 5-sp manual does 0-60mph in 6.2 secs, for comparison
purposes.

Audi rates the US-spec S4 biturbo 6-sp manual 0-60mph at 5.9 secs but both
Car & Driver and Motor Trend got 5.5 secs in their tests, and Road & Track
got 5.6 secs. I believe it too. I've had my S4 only a week and still
not pressing too hard while breaking in, but the acceleration can be
phenominal, but you realize it only if you look at the speedo,
or at the fact that suddenly you're just *flying* pass other cars.
It is so effortless and refined, even when pressed into action...
