A6 2.7TQ impressions

I don't want to get into a fruitless flameware here on "mine is faster
than yours" or somesuch.  The 91 200q 20V is a damn quick car out of the
box and with 0-60 @ 6.2 secs is only 0.2 secs off the pace of the new A6
2.7T 6-speed.  That said, there are plenty of people who have done
ECU/boost mods to either model (or for that matter, lots of other
Audi models) that boasts some serious performance capabilities.  If speed
is the only issue here then it certainly makes economic sense to start
with an older car and do the mod.  However car ownership is more complex
than that, and if speed really is the *only* requirement Audis would be
poor choices any way you look at it.

For most of us there are many other more compelling reasons to own an
Audi, whether it be quattro, the timeless looks, the way they feel and
drive, the good taste in design, the racing heritage, the all-around
excellence, whatever.  Now, cars do age, and an old 5ktq chipped will
still no doubt perform great, but Audi's newer offerings do have
superior chassis rigidity and suspensions, have better quality
materials, vastly improved electricals and other reliability factors,
and will simply feel more solid and rattle-free than a 10+ year example.
For many people, myself included, that's an important and tangible thing
too.  I have old Audis and new Audis in my stable, but I love them each
in different ways...  Enough rambling.
