And just WHAT relation is there to a Golf and a 5ktq.   None that I can see.    Just because it works on your Golf or V8 doesnt mean it will on a 5ktq.   The rear fenders cause great problems fitting large tires.  That said, if you use spacers in front   a 225/45-17 WILL fit with No fender rolling or grinding.  BTDT.   But it Wont work with the same offset front to back.  IE...with a 45mm offset it is close and MAY work up front.  Better to go about 40mm.    And a 45mm Offset or 40mm offset will rub majorly in the rear.  But a 50mm offset works well back there.  Some have run 225's on a 45 offset in back but with 17's it seems to not work well without rolling the fenders.  On a V8 you can run 245's just fine, but not a 5ktq.  
   If you cant go with custom built 17's  (expensive) then you can look at going with a 215/45-17 like Theron suggests and that (I would guess) will clear with a 45 offset wheel.  But you MAY have to run max Neg Camber settings in back. (Still staying within alignment specs of course)
   Just sharing my experience and what I've read on the list.   But we could NOT fit 225's on 17's with 45 offset and had to go more offset in back and less in front.  a 6mm spacer or 8mm spacer seemed to work.

I hope this helps. I also have a tire size conversion chart in xls (Excel)
format if you want to properly plus size tires. It gives you circumfrence and
RPM divergence.
