VW 1.9 Diesel(NAC)

I am looking for a good source for VW 1.9 IDI turbo motors.  This is a 1.9
liter turbo diesel with indirect injection, not the TDI motor.  They were
in mid-nineties VW's.  These motors were sold in CANADA.  I am in VT and I
am looking for a good source for them.  The only salvage yard I've found
in CAN wants $1000 US for one.  I've also heard that they are a PITA
because of different timing belt lengths etc.  

I am fielding a race team to go up mt. washington on recycled vegetable
oil.  I figure the 1.9 is better than the 1.6.  If anyone has any ideas
about how to find money, I'd love to know them.  Also if anyone would like
to donate, tell me and I'll send you some information.  

This is a really interesting project.  And I'd be grateful for some
advice.
