More disassembly fun(EM leak)

Not going to like the answer;
The only way to get close to some of the nuts and studs is by taking off the
Intake Manifold (IM).
This requires removal of the (I'm assuming turbo engine?) intake down-pipe,
air box, throttle cable and associated brackets, some minor wiring
connections and finally getting lucky enough to have the allen head IM bolts
actually come undone without stripping due to rust. That is the allen head
will (I had two) go round internally. Once that is off and out of the way,
you'll have a birds-eye view of the EM.
Any cracks are generally visible on top in the "crotches" of the manifold. I
had mine welded and so far it's been fine for a year. The qlist does not
recommend welding for longevity but many have done it and are happy. It
seems to be a coin toss as far as how long it will last if welded. The
consensus seems to indicate that the passenger side engine mount and the
first exhaust hangar in front of the cat are primary causes of EM cracking
should either one or both fail.
If your handy and not in a rush it can all be done in an afternoon with
minimal (but some) loss of finger flesh.
Beer helps.
