FW: Bad Speaker

The front right speaker in my '93 S4 has died.  Are these Bose systems using
the amp in the speaker method?  (Potential fire ??)  I want to replace them
all with good speakers but stock head unit.  Do I need an external amp?
What sizes fit where?  Any BTDT would be helpful at this point. 
  
I found it interesting that when I popped the tweeter grill off the door
panel there never was a tweeter installed.
