What car (Audi or other) for under $2500?

Hi!

It seems my sister will be off to the States soon and she has been told
she has to have at least $5000 to get a car when she gets there. They're
saying around $2000 deposit and then payments every month. Seems they
want her to get a new car immediately.

She is going to be in Denver, Colorado. I was thinking it'd be silly for
her to have to buy a new car immediately and she is of the same mind.
She said she heard of used Hondas going for $1000. Don't know how they
stand up in the winter, though, or what Denver is like in winter time.
So I said I'll ask what can be had for around $2000.

So... what can be had for $2000-$2500 in the used market? No rust,
ofcourse, or bad mechanicals or huge running costs. Was thinking she can
get herself a N/A 4kq or something, but I have no idea what the price is
like. At the moment she is running around in a '89 Toyota Corolla with
the 1300cc 12-valve 4-cylinder motor, 4-speed box, nothing fancy in it.
Shows rust. Not too bad to maintain, just a pain lately. Says something
of a similar size would do fine.
