scratch touch up

if the paint is metallic flake type (as I think you stated) it will be pretty
difficult to match up the pattern of metallic flakes in the paint to the
touch up area. IMHO, for best results - tape off scratch area around the
edge's of the scratch. Light layer after light layer fill in the scratch with
touch-up base paint. When proper drying time has elapsed, peel off tape and
wipe clean. Now take the clear coat and put a light layer over the *scratch*
area overlapping a bit onto the original paint around it. Then, when dry,
take your 1500/2000 grit rubbing compound and give the scratch and its
surronding area's a light rub or untill you have your desired finish.
If the scratch is down to the cars metal, take a rust remover pen and
lightly go over the exposed metal - then paint. Good Luck!
