Gearbox Oil - Redline?

I am thinking of changing the gearbox oil on my S2
(just think 90 Coupe) - how hard is this job?? 

special tools??

also, I have been told by listers (last year actually)
to put in Redline MT-90  ... but this is _not_
cheap!!!

Any other alternatives?  what about another synthetic
gearbox oil? of course i want to remove the notchiness
that is there... 

if Redline MT-90 - what is the going price in the
states???  

Do you actually get better fuel economy with Redline
like they say?
