Type 44 Axle Shaft Removal/CV Boot R & R

I recently went through the boot repair procedure on my 87 5kcst. Started
with the bolt together split boots. Spent twenty bucks on one and found it
to be a POS. Bolt heads pulled through before the large end closed
sufficiently to clamp and the clamp could not be tightened sufficiently to
hold the end in place. Instructions warned of overtightening bolts. Ruined
the new boot so couldn't return it. This is from a guy that has had good
luck with glue together split boots on another vehicle. Proceeded to pull
the axle per Bentley. Got a complete rebuilt axle from NAPA for $70. R&R
time less than time wasted on split boot. No press necessary on mine, axle
slid out with very little force. If the boot has failed its probably best
to replace the whole axle at the small cost difference. At least my
original boots lasted 250k miles and that is a long life for joints as well.
A reasonably competent backyard mechanic can do this job.

I am need to replace the boot on the outer left front cv joint. I guess the

easiest way to do that is to take the axle shaft off and do the repair off
the car. The Bentley says the procedure is:

1. With the car on the ground, loosen the 32mm axle nut, and wheel lug
bolts.
2. Jack up car and remove the axle nut and wheel.
3. Remove the triple square nuts holding the inboard end of the axle shaft
to the transmission. Move axle back.
4. Press outboard end of axle out of the wheel hub.

Is that all there is? That doesn't sound too hard. Is this something the
average home shade tree mechanic can do? Is the press something that is
readily available?
