drive shaft shutter

Sounds to me like you have worn drivers!! This is the first time that I've heard of it on an Audi but it happens to almost every Saab 900 after 150k miles!!

I fixed it in one of my old Saabs by swapping the drivers. The drivers are located where the half shafts "enter" the transmission. It's a lot of work to replace but it gets rid of the problem!!

Drivers wear on one side because they are constantly being "pushed" on by the half shafts. When you take them out and reverse sides you cause the drivers to push on the opposite side of the driver(that's not worn). This is good for another 150k miles on a Saab!!!!

This is what your problem sounds like to me!!!

  Hi all !!!
I posted a message some time ago about my 5kcsqt drive shaft shuttering when I accelerate hard in 1st and 2nd gear, I never really got any firm answers on the topic, I have deducted that some part of the shaft is bad, either the cv joints or the U joints or possiblly the center bearing, I dont know ..... If I do the rebuild myself, do I have to re-balance the shaft upon completion, or am I just better of to have a shop do it. I live in wisconsin and there's a shop in Manitowoc called Blaufergnugen and i believe they rebuild shafts, any one have experience with them?, How much should I expect to pay if I have it done?

                                                                                                                  Thanks

                                                                                                                          Tim
