pulling an axle....90 cq

in pulling the right front axle, i can get the outer end out of the hub, but 
have not been able to get the inner end out....
i tried unsuccessfully using an allen-head socket in an attempt to remove the 
bolts that go through the cv boot inner flange and the inner cv joint.
is there a special tool, or is it a torx?  if so, what size...?

is that all that's keeping me from pulling the axle, or is that not it at 
all, and i'm missing something else?
