'87 5KA "Radio Won't Stop Scanning!"

Had this same problem. Nothing wrong with my radio. The Avants need an
amplified antenna to get signal. I replaced the Audi antenna whose amplifier
had "gone the way of all flesh" with an aftermarket amplified antenna,
actually producing enough signal to find stations and the "infinite
searching" stopped. Just as an aside, the inability of a system to manually
index to the next frequency seems a real design flub. Just my opinion.

Radio turns on fine. Lights up fine.
Won't stop at a station AM or FM, just keeps scanning.
Even got new roof antenna mast which replaced "Mr. Wizard" mess from
previous owner.
Any thoughts?
Help appreciated, if any.
