Rick,
Check my site out for some more camshaft info:
http://www.homestead.com/Ben_Swann/myaudi.html
"A 272 Grind CAM will be installed and is being custom ground by ELGIN cams.
lift:470 Duration(exhaust and intake):234
The stock cam is like 245 grind lift:400 duration~200."
The lift and duration numbers you are quoted may vary depending upon how
they are measured. Sometime the values are "off the seat", which is the
point where the valve just starts to lift, rather than it's
bottommost/unloaded position. Sometimes the duration is measured from the
foot/base of the cam, which does not necessarily tell the respective valve
duration. ELGIN uses an "off the seat' measurement.
BTW, a 264 ELGIN grind is a good bet for the 4KQ in stock form, a 272 is
even better if you are willing to sacrifice some low end and smooth idle.
Anything more should be relegated to racing and would be inappropriate for a
street/daily driver.
Regards,
Ben Swann

Subject: 5cyl. 4K Camshaft Question.

I would like to know if anybody out there knows the camshaft degrees on a
stock 5cyl. 4K? Isnt it somewhere around 254 or 256? I'm all ears. I need
to know because I'm selling my reground "sport" performance cam I had made
for my 4KQ, and I need to know the degree difference. Thanks!
