removing CVJ - what size hammer?

Hi all,
	Yeah, seems like a lame question, but after hammering off a 
front CVJ last week with my trusty 3lb sledge I'm tired of mucking 
up joints with hammer marks.  

	Anyone with suggestions for a way to separate a CVJ without 
mucking up the joint itself.  Brass hammer? Weight?  Press?  
wood blocks?  what works best?
