Timmerman "Shrapnnel-Knobben" mod

Paul Timmerman in California sold a kit that allowed you to insert a 470
ohm resistor into the daughter board of your ECU, which fooled the ECU into
thinking the boost was lower than it really was at any moment. This kept
the fuel pump cut-out from operating. The other part of the kit was a
manual pressure valve that allowed you to set the pressure in your WG upper
chamber by turning a dial on the valve. You connected this valve in the
vacuum line between the intake manifold and the upper chamber of the WG, in
place of the WGFV. Then you hooked up a manual boost gauge and ran boost
tests and readjustments of the valve until the boost gauge read what you
wanted......in my case about 15 PSI above atmospheric during the wind-out
of the engine. I could have set it higher and did a few times, but I
wanted to stay on the safer side of the detonation risk. The kit Timmerman
sold was so good that it scared me, and I even replaced the resistor with a
560 ohm to soften the result. Been happy for two years.

Paul Timmerman was doing research for NASA out in California, in the area
of fuel cells when he offered this kit. Earlier this year I heard he was
more interested in a more complex and sophisticated systems for his stable
of rally cars. He had 3 Audis and a NIssan then and was planning on pruning
the herd.

His email address was <ptimmerm at mashtun.jpl.nasa.gov>
