Don't know... If you read the propoganda... er' sales literature each one is the
best...
I've heard good things about Mobil 1 for motor oil and Red Line Synthetics for Gear
Lubes (tranny, diff, etc..)
I am running Amsoil Synthetic Gear Lube in my transmission. I chose it because they
are the only one I could find that offered a GL-4 specific gear lube as spec'd by
Audi. All the others offered a GL-1 through GL-5 (one grade fits all) oil. I have
a couple VW friends who advised me after experimentation that the VW/Audi engineers
were definitely not kidding around when the spec'd GL-4. The critical thing is the
syncro performance. I have noticed an moderated improvement in syncro smoothness
on cold mornings since putting in the synthetic. Interestingly, the rear diff. calls
for GL-5 (no syncros in that box), so you have to pay attention. The owners manual
is always the best guide, IMO.
