ecu mods--elec. boost controllers

wow, is that how tight it is in CA? In CT, they never even try to find the
ecu box, let alone open it. I think they should make the law so that as
long as you pass an exhaust test, you get a sticker. Certain mods to ecu
and other items on the car can actually make the car more efficient and
pollute less. And as long as the mixture is not rich or too lean, emissions
will be legal. As soon as it turns lean you get lots of NOx emissions and
rich mixtures make more CO and HC. But the ECU's function of controlling
mixture remains unchanged w/ the boost mods so they should not effect
emissions.
The only thing we're changing is the boost pressure, which only affects
timing and wastegate operation. CIS systems use the air-flow plate to meter
fuel w/ fine adjustment made by the ECU using temp. and O2 sensors. On
other EFI systems changing the boost pressure might affect emissions b/c
some calculate fuel mixture from manifold pressure and temp. But those
systems usually have O2 sensors to make corrections, although the ecu's
target mixture would be wrong. So I guess there's one positive aspect of
CIS....
