Is Jetta 1.8t the same engine as the A4 1.8t?

The A4 chassis cars have the 1.8T transversely mounted w/ a drive-by-wire
throttle "linkage." The B5 chassis cars use a longitudinally mounted engine-
pre-'00 MY cars are conventional linkage, '00 and newer are drive-by-wire
as well.
The turbocharger on the two engines is different, as well as the intercooler
and several other differences.
A chip will get you to about 197hp on the B5 cars, exhaust added maybe to
about 207-210hp. Similar gains w/ the A4 cars but there is no way that
an aftermarket chip, exhaust and intake filter will get you 250hp.
You will need a K04 turbocharger or some other custom turbo setup (like
the APR Stage III) for more power. Not to say it can't be done- MTM has
an Audi A4 1.8T up to something like 485hp, but that has a 2.1L engine
and a _huge_ turbo (K24?).
Theron, you're falling into the "let's add the numbers" game. It doesn't
work that way.

Taka
