Well, you're a genius. Want a job? I see five or six turbo Audis in
the workshop a week, and I'm the chief diagnostician. They fool me all
the time, despite having seen dozens if not hundreds.

The chief reasons for these problems with the MC/1B/MB engine are
failure of the 'Michelin Man' hose (intercooler to throttle body) on the
back between the first and third reinforcing rings - usually the second
- and failure (on the Type 44) of the long hose between the turbo and
the intercooler. This last one can be a sod to find, because the hose
delaminates at the sleeve joint and appears intact to physical
inspection.

These problems are so common in recently chipped cars that we now
routinely do a 25 mile 'chase' after chipping.
