Hello Listers!
I finally got my Audi! It's a 1993 500 SEL (in South Africa). I think it's what was called the (1992-1995) 100 in most of the rest of the world, looks like the early A6. It has the 2.8 V6 engine and 4 speed DSP automatic gearbox. White, 168 000km (100 000 miles), FSH at Audi agents, drives like a dream.
Questions:
The only part of the car that doesn't feel "as new" is the steering. I think there is a slight play, the nose feels "heavy" and the car "hangs" into a corner. The tyres are brand new and the shocks feel ok. It is not a big problem but it certainly is not the same as a younger car I also tested. Is there some standard rubbers or bushings that I can replace that will improve the situation?
The auto box makes a funny "twink!" sound when shifting from 2 to 3. It is soft and only noticeable when you drive very civilised. It sounds like its coming from the dashboard, but I assume that's just because of the soundproofing. I could be dreaming but the 2-3 shift does not feel as smooth as the others. Is this something to worry about? And can anything be done about it?
The manual states that the recirculate button on the air-con shuts out ALL outside air. Is this strictly true? I was hoping that as a non-smoker with no passengers most of the time, I could use the system more efficiently by recirculating.
The driver side outside mirror does not want to adjust electrically. I know it worked when I tested the car (one day earlier), because I set it then. Now it is dead, passenger side is fine. Is there any trick to this that I don't know?
Thanks a lot
Regards
Leon
