Question 1. Did you verify this, have him show you what he is talking
about?
Question 2. What kind of audi is this that has a "pre-muffler"? Is he
referring to the exhaust manifold or downpipe, if so, why not just replace
that?
Do you have a definative exhaust leak that you can hear?
I still think he's trying to take you for a ride. Have you actually
confirmed with your eyes that your entire exhaust system is ready to fall
off?
Were just trying to help with your diagnosis. I can understand a bad O2
sensor causing your car to not run right, or a leak around it causing a
mis-reading of the O2 content, but the diagnosis he prescribes sounds just
doesn't sound right to me.
Maybe you should consider a second opinion as the first responses he gave in
the earlier email showed he didn't know what he was talking about. Why
should this one.
It is more likely that you have a couple of clogged fuel injectors than what
he is telling you.
I hope you get it resolved without spending too much money and time. Please
advise us as to what the problem is exactly, once you get it fixed.

Ben Swann

Well, heres the problem, according to the mechanic. The pre muffler is
rusted out and it spit debree into the cat converter. So now it is all
shot. So the mechanic is agreeing to replace it with an Original
Equipment eXhaust and a new oXygen sensor for $750.
