THe rear suspension may be similar, but front suspension is different. Also the
engine position is a big key here, the A4/Passat has a longitudinal engine while
the A3/Golf/Jetta etc. has a transverse setup.

Yep, the A3 quattro and Golf 4motion has exact the same system, with
anelectronically controlled Haldex coupling that transfer the power to the rear
axle.
