All this talk of American cars being "slow" is ridiculous. One need look
no farther than what is going on in ALMS GTS, World Challenge GT, Le
Mans GT division, or FIA GT to realize that 'Vettes, Vipers, and now the
new Saleen S7 (pic at:
http://motorsportvisions.com/lsalms2k/pages/ls00_042.htm and more if you
browse a little but only a portion of my Laguna Seca ALMS work is up
there so far...hence no post to the list yet, yes there are new Audi
shots as well of course) are all formidable race cars and their road
going counterparts are not slouches either. (Yes, I realize that the S7
was designed and built partially in the UK but it is being sold as an
"American Supercar" for the princely sum of some $365k or so.) Porsche
would love to have enjoyed the results that the Oreca Vipers have
enjoyed the past few years (and Porsche has and no doubt will again).

In World Challenge GT the cars are street cars with roll cages and
safety equipment with pretty much open rules for suspension mods, fuel
systems, and they run on spec tires. There is some HP and weight
eqalization in the class though. Porsche Turbos and M3s do pretty well.
The S4 Competition will come on I think next year...first year teathing
pains this season. Ex-Ferrari Challenge cars that dare run in the series
are sad also-rans that are trounced by the Cobras and Saleen Mustangs.
Exceptional racing series though with standing starts and over 40 cars
on the grids...and at Laguna Seca three of 'em were Audis! Oh, and the
defending 1999 season championship winning car was a Viper BTW.
