Ian, I'm in Binghamton, and would be happy to service your car.  I am going 
to SEMA next week (leaving Sunday), so my schedule is tight.  First thing I'd 
do is listen to the fuel pump when you first turn the key to the "on" 
position (or listen with a stethoscope), not "start."  Assuming it's making 
noise, I'd replace the fuel filter because I'd replace it anyhow after 
sitting (and you didn't say how old).  Also, going up a hill is when the fuel 
filters clog (usually the sediment shifts and blocks the back port, for some 
strange reason... don't ask me to explain because it's counterintuitive).
