V8 was not built in a diesel. The type w-116 prior to the w 126 both as s 
class's and w-116 came upto 1980(?) and the w-126 came from 1981-1991. The 
v-12 was not oddered in either of the mercedes until the > 1992 mercedes 
s-class's. The 6.9 was available only in the w-116 type s-class. and came 
with the v8. the highest displacement on the w-126 s-class was 5.6L V-8.
