The original 67 shelby cobra had over 400hp and well over that in ft/lbs as
well. Held the record for 0-60 at 4.6 sec (i think thats the right time)
for a production car from the 1960's into well into the 1980's according to
Guiness book of records. The 911 turbo is a very fast car, however the
cobra is 20-25 years OLDER and will still keep pace with it, its only draw
backs being the original tires arent anywhere near upto todays tire
technology. The Cobra was an extremely sucessful car at the track as well.
Its 2nd year of production it took the coveted manufacturers trophy from
Ferrari. Its essentially a huge motor (427 cid) with a rollcage built
around it, seats installed, aluminum skinned and made mobile with a
drivetrain. Carroll Shelby used to take people for a drive in one put a 50$
bill on the dash and said if you can grab it when I say go you can keep it.
As far as I know, no one was able to grab it. :)

The GT500 was another very fast car that also came from Carroll Shelby, not
quite as fast as a Cobra but, definatly has ALOT of hp I think in the range
of 360-390. While cars like that tended have to a disadvantage in
cornering, once out of the corner, look out! A BMW 540i may out handle a
GT500 but, i dont think there is a production car built by BMW that will out
accelerate it once the road turns straight and this is also a 30 year old
car!

Alot of American cars have been junk (can anyone say K-car!), but at the
same time look at the things that Dodge has done (yes i know
Dahmler/Chrystler... sorry spelling) with the Viper, the Prowler and the new
car (cant think of the name, but looks like a mini panel truck, thats just
COOL!!!). Ford with its Mustang and GM with its Firebird/Camareo and lets
not forget the immortal Corvette. One of the nicest things about most of
these car is they are affordable and have been since they started being
built. You dont need 50k$ + to buy one(other than the Viper) of these cars
and that maybe the nicest thing about them.
