Rich,
    I've had similar sentiments, and plan on eventually painting my coupe 
myself.  You should be warned that it is not a task to be taken lightly.  
Painting a car...at least well is an enormous investment especially in time, 
and less so in tools and supplies.  There are a few good books 
available....don't have the titles offhand, but they are available from B 
and N.  I suggest picking up some reading material, be careful of date, as 
there is a wealth of outdated information out there.  Beyond this I can 
offer little advice, as I have not painted a car before.  However, from the 
reasearch I've done on the subject it does not seam beyond the realm of 
possibility for a determined and careful DIY'er to perform a good paint job. 
  I'd love to hear anyone's experience from the list.
