I am the one Todd was mentioned that had the T-Belt go. The one major thing
that can happen all to easily is that the rear main seals tend to leak on
them. Again, I can't express how important it is to make sure the car has
had 60K t-belt changes. That will run you about $1500-2000 for parts and
labor. I will do just about anything service wise to a car except the
T-belt on the V8. While I would not classify it as being that much harder
then any other t-belt I would call it more labor intensive then most of
t-belt jobs. You also need a special tool or two.
Also, Like Todd said, check the tranny well, these are a weak point Auto or
Manual. If it is a manual, $5000 is a great deal assuming there are no huge
parts missing. Check the CV joints too.
Look at the front brakes, If they are the UFO brakes, expect higher
replacement costs. Traditionally the rotors they can't be turned but there
are a few place that will turn them. Brake swaps can be done too. One
place to look at swaps is http://www.bira.org.
