90Q Muffler Inquiry - Wife says it's urgent :-)

On my 5kT, I just bought a performance muffler from a local store for $40.
It was a Walker SuperTurbo. I only used one muffler b/c I liked a little
more grumble. The first muffler was replaced w/ a straight pipe. I had
someone weld/bend it all up for $75. The way he did it saved all the
bolt-together connections, and used clamps so that all the parts could be
replaced individually. This meant some of the pipes had to be opened up.
Hanger position is important so the weight of the muffler doesn't strain
the manifold.
A one muffler system might not be as refined as a dual setup, but you can
always replace the first one w/ a glasspack and add on a turbo muffler in
the rear. The dynomax mufflers would prolly be too loose for a 2.2L,
cutting torque. I think they're s'posed to be for 200+ hp. Turns out JCW
has the same exact Walker muffler for $30, but I was willing to pay extra
locally. You can also choose to use 2 regular mufflers which will give you
similar noise, but may be a little restricted. I think you can get good
advice [given hp, liters, etc] from a local performance shop, as long as
you tell them you want custom parts. You might even consider getting a
muffler w/ built-in tailpipe, buy one later, or have the shop make you one,
like I did. In my case, even the tailpipe is removable; it's held on by a
clamp too. In any case, building you're own system gives you a little more
control over the final outcome, and will save you some big bucks. Don't get
too crazy and replace 2" mufflers w/ 2.5" ones. The stock Audi mufflers are
very good at striking a balance between torque and HP, but there's no noise.
