Snip....
The cap I got in the mail (03239 from wrenchhead.com) is two-tiered, with a
couple of the
spark wire holes raised up higher than the rest.
The rotor I got in the mail (04139 from wrenchhead.com) is thicker and
shaped differently.
Am I crazy or what? Did a previous owner put an older distributor on the
car? Please
advise.

Depending on the supplier you will get caps these days "tiered" as you call
it. They are better insulated than the old style. My supplier has been
sending me these for a couple of years. As for the rotor, you may have a
10 mm. I've seen both on the KX and NG engines as you do with the MC
others. It depends on which distributor version you have. If you're not
sure which take your old rotor to the Audi Dealer or Bosch supplier and buy
one from them and keep the box for next year.
