I just completed installing the 322x32 disk/Porsche Monoblock caliper brakes
on my S6. The installation was very, very easy, (Thanks, Paul R.) and took
only a few hours. The caliper centered over the rotor without shims.
I am using 18x8 Avus wheels, 235x40-18 SP 9000's, so there is lots of room -
I could have gone to the 355 disks.
The Porsche brake disk, caliper, pads and mounting bracket weighed 29.5 lbs
(bathroom digital scale); the orginal G-60 weighed 30.5 lbs. The original
Avus 16x7.5 wheel and SP 4000 tire weighed 42.5 lbs; the 18x8 Avus plus SP
9000 tires weighs 50 lbs so the changes increased unsprung wieght by 6.5 lbs
per side.
Some of you have heard me complain about the long brake pedal travel,
apparently inherent to the S-series cars, one experiences before building
braking pressure. After changing the front brakes, I am pleased to find the
brake pedal travel is now normal. And that alone was worth the price of
admission!!!!!
I now have a set of G-60 calipers and new-in-the box Zimmerman disks and pads
available if anyone is interested.
