The quest to find the culprit in my non-starting 100S continues, but now
there is a possible clue...testing the ECU inputs turned up no voltage
fluctuation from the brand new camshaft Hall effect switch. Is this normal?!

The following email is from my shop. Any additional thoughts..are we on the
verge of identifying the culprit?

FYI My original email to quatro at audifans.com is attached at the bottom. I
received numerous and excellent suggestions from my original question.

We have checked at the e.cu all imputs, we have all except the Hall effect
switch from
the camshaft!! At the cam even the new hall switch is not giving a signal?
We have
probed every which way and cannot get a pattern with the lab scope even at
the switch
itself. The voltage is there but no fluctuation signal. We are going to
recheck with
the other audi owner if we can snag the car again on Monday and check that
one for
signal. The can is turning and doing what it should, but why no signal
remains a
mystery. Will keep you informed mon-tuesday

My '94 100S has been perfectly reliable for the 5 years I have owned it. Two
weeks ago, it would not start...no problem turning over...a computer
somewhere appears to be not giving the ok to start...towed the car to a shop
great in diagnostics.

No error codes. The shop has been going through and swapping out computer
parts from a same vintage, but running Audi, in an attempt to identify the
problem. The common suspects, the crankshaft position sensor and the
ignition control module appear to be working properly.

Before the shop goes the next step and pulls the main and very expensive ECU
deeply buried behind the glove box...has anyone out there seen this kind of
problem, or have some ideas on how to find the culprit?

Even the Audi technician at the local dealer is stumped.
