Guys, we were originally talking about drag racing. In drag racing, who
cares if the car can't take corners? Also, who cares if it's ugly and
underbraked?

I wouldn't bore a 302 into a 308, that sounds weird. GT-40 heads with
some porting, slap on a Paxton blower, stronger rear end, Centerforce
clutch and drop in a Tremec tranny, and that thing will go fast. All of
that work doesn't cost that much, either- compared to tuning European
cars. Pony cars are cheap to modify and are good at going fast in a
straight line.

Sorry if I'm restating the obvious.

BTW, a '00 Cobra R is pretty good on the track as well. Maybe not the
ultimate sports car or anything, but pretty good from the numbers I've
seen and the reviews I've read. I haven't had the privilege of driving
one of these rare machines.

Finally, Mustangs are not Escort-based- they're Fairmonts. Fox platform.

No, since there are copious supercharger and even turbocharger kits for
these
rotten handeling, WAY underbraked, and generally unattractive overengined
Escorts.
(Note : They are preeettttyyyy damn fast with those superchargers, though,
and can be made to be better braked, handel better, etc.  Anyone ever hear
of
Dech engineering?  I wouldn't think much of Mustangs -at least, more than I
did - if it weren't for his cars.  Dech Mustang 5.0 around long course,
Walkins Glen in about 2:20.  That's flying.)
