Type 44 generally refers to the USA '86-88 5000 (including front drivers,
stick and auto, normally aspirated and turbo charged, and quattro, stick
only, normally aspirated and turbocharged; in both sedan and wagon form); the
'88-91 100 and 200 models (same varieties as above), and the '89-94 V8
quattro (auto or manual, two different engine sizes).
Seems shorter to use Type 44 to refer to a platform than to list all of the
above for a generic procedure, such as... window regulators, or blower motors
that are common to all these cars.
Plus, it is ?coincidental? that using the shift key, the type 44 becomes the
TYPE $$.
Also gotta remember that Audi wasn't consistent world-wide with model names,
and tends to rename new models after old ones (such as the 5000 in USA being
the 100 and 200 elsewhere; renamed to 100 and 200 in '88; new body style in
'91/92 named 100 again, and dropped the 200 name (turbo became the S4, then
renamed S6, different platform than later S4...)...

(my type 44 shares many things with other 5000s, 100s, 200s, and V8s...)
