Sorry, Megan, I previously confirmed my description of the cable's location
with the hood open. I just checked with a flashlight and the hood closed,
and the only place I can see the cable by looking through the grille is on
the driver's side right next to the headlight assembly. I could reach the
cable there with a long-bladed screwdriver.
However, when I looked up from the ground, with the flashlight next to the
generator, I could see several inches of the cable. Perhaps you could bend
a wire hanger into a loop and hook the cable from that location. If you
have some ramps to drive up onto, it might make it easier to get vision
angles on the other side without rubbing your nose on the bottom of the A/C
compressor. I've seen the coathanger process described here several times
in the past.
Your mechanic obviously must have experienced opening hoods with the
screwdriver a number of times. Did you watch closely enough to determine
whether he released both sides at once, or did he have to go back and forth
to get both released?
