... ah yes, I've got BTDT there myself. The actual stock fitments on the
'83 were 215/50-15 and 205/60-15. My car came with the Pirelli P7Rs in the
50 series. After the belts all broke I found it difficult to find anything
in the prescribed 50 series size so I ended up getting Gatorbacks in
205/50-15. These tires gave me a very harsh ride, and I ended up bending a
set of the soft Ronal wheels ... what was the model, R8?

For a long time I was swapping sets of wheels back and forth between the urq
and the '88 5kCSQ Avant, so I also have experience with both the Dunlop
D60A2 and BFG Comp TA HR-4 in the 205/60-15 size. It is true that these
tires don't look as good on the car, but they do give a great ride and the
car still seems to hold the road fairly well.

Later on I found that Dunlop was offering the SP8000s in the 215/50-15 size
so I bought a set for my Fuchs wheels. I picked up a nail that went through
the sidewall ... and then found that the Dunlops were no longer available in
the 215 width. I decided to go with a pair of 225/50-15s which I now have
on the back of the car, with the remaining 215s on the front. I found that
there was very little clearance between the tire and the tie rod ends when I
tried the 225s up front, but when I put the 215s back I found that there
really wasn't that much difference between the two. By my calculations the
wider tires only give a couple percent difference in the indicated speed.
I've been able to go out and have a bit of fun with my car lately and I
really like the Dunlops on the car. The ride is a bit rough, so perhaps it
may not make sense in Denver if all you are planning to drive on are public
roads ...
