AutoWeek sounds right. According to VWPower,  it will go like this

W-8--2 VR-4's --> in Flagship Passat

W-12->2 VR-6's->Says fullsize car(maybe A8)  and sport utility developed
w/Porsche  
W-16-->2 VR-8's yep V not W--> Bentley

W-18-->3 VR-6's--> Bugatti

Also says VW is working on a W--10 diesel, (2)  5 cylinders set @ an
anglle of 90°,  to have a swept volume of 5.0 liters.  Which will have
313hp @ 4000 rpm and 553 lb-ft @ only 2000rpm.  

Says VW already has a V 10 with direct injection currently found in it's
"Concept D".
