Change that heater control valve now!!

Just a friendly reminder. Do it today. Replace the plastic heater control
valve with the metal one available from your favorite Auto Zone, Checker or
Pep Boys.

Last night the second one this summer let go on my way home. This time there
was no trail of white smoke out the rear to let me know it had let go. Thank
heaven the overtemp warning light came on and the ambient temperature was
less than 80F. I was able to limp home, where I sheepishly went to my parts
cabinet and retrieved the valve that had been sitting there since the Gray
87 had its loom burn up. I wanted to replace the coolant anyway, but not at
the risk of cooking the valve train. The white station wagon seems to be
none the worse for its ordeal, and this time no burned wiring.

The whole process takes 15 minutes and you'll be glad you did. If you
haven't replaced yours, you're living on borrowed time.
