Anything is for order if you know the dealer or salesperson really
well. There's always a list that forms when even rumors are
discussed of a model getting imported that wasn't before; this
happened long ago when rumors flew(and turned out to be true) that
the S8 was coming; a bunch of lucky people in that neck of the woods
are getting S8's before anyone else in the area. The dealership
maintains a list, and say, 5 slots come along from AoA to the dealer.
Dealer takes the first 5 names on the list, calls up those folks, and
so on.
I bet the dealership's best customers usually get to put their name
on those sort of lists with a phone call and a small(compared to the
car) deposit :-)

You just described the allroad, as Joe told me when I asked about
rumors of a A6tt. Think of the allroad as an A6v6tt with a
"mandatory" funny body kit :-) Many a person has expressed a serious
interest in something besides an allroad or the lethargic 2.8 A6,
from what I've seen, to replace cars like 200q20v avants. No go; if
you want a zippy wagon, it's S4 Avant or allroad.

To be fair, sounds like the guy was just hired and hasn't had a
chance to go to a training program, or see any literature? Audi is
supposedly hiring like crazy all over to fill the company's
infrastructure...they spend years in the garbage can, now they're
swimming in sales, but can't hire people fast enough to support the
cars and the dealers. Give 'em a chance, in more ways than one, it's
a "good" thing :-)
