air flow sensor plate

It is my understanding that the airflow sensor plate stop has a spring to
allow any backfires into the intake to force the plate beyond the rest
position. If you think about it there should never be a case where airflow
is pushing the plate downward ... I would not recommend disabling the spring
and see no benefit in doing so.

While writing this I am wondering if you aren't talking about disabling the
"deceleration valve" ... if this is indeed what you're talking about, then I
would have to say that it should not adversely affect operation of the
vehicle. That said, if you live in a state that has an emissions inspection
program as California does, if the car went in for a smog inspection and the
tech saw that the decel valve was disconnected, it is likely that you would
fail the inspection, and you would be required to pay whatever the cost was
to repair the underlying problem that is caused the decel valve to be
disconnected in the first place (READ: remember to hook it back up again
before taking the car in for an inspection!).
