Follow-up post on the car I saw earlier, and possible answer to Derrick's post.
Car - '89 200 Q Avant - 110K Miles. Tornado Red, minimal dings, paint in reasonable condition (shiny, smooth, some scratches and pitting), general exterior condition Good to VG. Missing roof rack load bars. Car has been cleaned. Currently running on A4 5-spoke 16", shop owner is thinking of trading wife's 17 x 7 BBS's with 225/50s (claims that they work on his wife's 200).
Interior, Leather, standard seats, grey. Grey dash. Overall very good condition. Has working cargo area cover. Interior cleaned. Missing OEM floor mats.
Interior functional losses:
Passenger's rear window doesn't work.
Sunroof tilt function doesn't work, roof slides very well.
Trip Computer display shows classic signs of circuit board cracking. Will not clear.
Newer factory stereo, circa '96. Non-Bose.
Rear Diff lock appears to work, properly cancels ABS, ABS defeat works, shifter seems to work normally.
Underhood/Car: New Exhaust
Claimed steering rack miles 40K, rack was clean, but Pentosin low, definite signs of previous leaks which look fresher than 40K ago.
Bomb - Dead
Stumbles at idle. Possible bad coil to distr wire.
to me, has vacuum leaks. MM hose okay, intercooler suspect (shop owner claims an external spray sealed it, does anyone know of such a material?)
shop owner claims new Timing belt and water pump.
shop owner claims new front calipers and disks (didn't check)
new after-run pump
A/C works well
Has injector leak-down, hard starts. Shop owner says he has the injectors and plans to replace.
I guess that's all I remember. Didn't have time to actually drive the car, so I don't know what boost it'll make.
Seems like a car which can be brought up to snuff, but it needs a few items to get it there. If the coil wire was replaced, I'd say it's ready to drive.
Asking price $6500 - no affiliation, endorsement or anything.

Subject: 5000 CS
Hi all:
I'm new to the list. Took an interest after having driven in a friends 5000
Quattro. And I just found an 88 5000 CS Quattro Wagon. Details: 237,000
km, leather, sunroof, 5speed. Price $5000 Canadian. Add is at
http://www.canada.trader.com/trader/result/affich.asp?sid=62MMXMB8682782&rub
no=4000&pa=2&pr=1
Questions:
(1) Is this reasonable?
(2) What are the pitfalls for this model?
(3) What should I have verified or checked out before considering the
purchase?
Kind thanks,
Derrick
