Subarus built for the US have anemic engines. Your choices now are both H4s,
on 2.2L and one 2.5L, producing a maximum of ~ 155hp (I forget the exact
number). I drove a 2.5L, and it was pitiful. Definitely no turbos.

The state of affairs elsewhere, though, is quite different. I'm told that
the base engine for the Impreza in Japan is a V6 making 200hp. The Impreza
here is their entry level car, with a 2.2L H4. I expect the Subs in South
Africa are blessed with better engines, because the ones here couldn't beat
a 3-series with a 2000 pound trailer. :)
