What is an Audi 100 E?

Thanks to the emissions laws here in the USA (did I really just say that? :)
the switch over to fuel injection happened here in the late '70s and early
'80s. My 1978 Audi Fox has a little badge on the boot proclaiming it has
"FUEL INJECTION" ... but certainly by the late '80s that fact was passe ...

It is also interesting to note that in those days it was not common to have
the engine displacement broadcast by a badge somewhere, but nowadays it
seems to be very common. I think this can be attributed to the fact that
there seems to be more engine options available for a given model ... as has
been the case in Europe for some time now ...
